Business & Tax Compliance

Your compliance, done properly, every time – so nothing slips and nothing surprises you.

Business tax & compliance covers the recurring obligations every Australian business has to meet: income tax returns, BAS and IAS lodgements, ASIC annual reviews, and the record-keeping the ATO expects behind them.

Done well, it’s the foundation everything else – tax planning, structuring, growth – is built on.

What we do

Annual Tax Compliance

Your Annual Financials & Tax Returns completed efficiently and accurately. We back our scheduling, job management & quality assurance processes, so that nothing falls through the cracks.

Activity Statement (BAS) Lodgement

Timely reminders and efficient completion of your Activity Statements – with a long-term, big-picture focus rather than a box-ticking one – keep our clients coming back again and again.

ASIC Compliance

Change of address, managing your annual ASIC renewal, or adding a new director or shareholder? No dramas! We can not only advise you correctly, but our investment in tech means we can have the relevant forms completed, signed and lodged within minutes.

Other Recurring Tax & Compliance Requirements

These services include dealing with payroll tax, workcover, single touch payroll (STP), FBT, TPAR and division 7A compliance. We’re your single point of contact for all your business & tax compliance requirements.

Who we do it for

Multi-Entity Structures

Running a company, trust, or a few related entities? We manage compliance across your whole structure under one roof, so nothing falls between the gaps.

Property Investors

Investment properties add a layer of complexity most standard returns don’t need to deal with. We handle that detail as a matter of course, not an add-on.

Want One Firm, Not Several

Business owners who’d rather have the same firm across compliance, structuring and tax planning than juggle different advisors for each.

Been Let Down Before

Business Owners and Investors who’ve missed a deadline, copped a late lodgement fee, or are fed up with their current advisor taking weeks to respond to their emails and calls.

What sets us apart

Reliable

We do what we say. Your jobs are tracked from start to finish, and if something’s going to be delayed, you’ll hear it from us first — not the other way around.

Responsive

You’ll hear from us before a deadline becomes a problem, not after — with clear checklists and forward planning built into how we work.

Fair

Every job is priced on its own, so you never pay for what you don’t need – and clients who keep organised, quality records are rewarded for it too.

Experienced

Our team brings decades of experience, and everything that requires review is reviewed — so your compliance work is correct and on time.

Our process

1. If you’re not already a client, start a conversation

Let’s first see if we’re a good fit for each other. You can start a conversation with us by clicking here.

2. Provide your information

Either complete our Annual Tax Compliance Checklist for business groups, or our Tax Return Checklist for individuals & investors, or simply book a meeting to kick-off your Annual Tax Compliance.

3. We schedule your job

Our team schedules your job with your usual manager and partner. We’ll confirm once this is booked so you can sleep easy knowing that the next step is on us.

4. Preparation & review

On, and where possible before the scheduled date, your compliance work is prepared and reviewed by a partner.

5. Finalisation

Accounts are finalised and you receive a detailed management letter setting out the outcomes and our recommendations before anything is lodged.

6. Lodgement

Returns and statements are lodged with the ATO and we send you a confirmation once this is complete.

Industries & Specialities

No matter your size or shape, we’re here to help. But there are some people who we do our BEST work with…

Property Developers & Investors

Investing or developing property? Talk about complex! Well yes, it’s hard to dispute that, however, luckily for you we specialise in all things property. So, whether your plan is to flip it, rent it or knock it down and build your property empire, we’ll have the answers you need.

Builders & Tradies

We help hundreds of trade & construction clients develop systems and processes that are efficient, inexpensive, and take as little as an hour a week to have your invoices out, your staff paid and your bookkeeping sorted. This is kind of our bread and butter.

Starting your Business from Scratch

We love nothing more than helping someone set up their new business. With our mentorship, they’ll start clean, and so long as you’re on board, they’ll stay that way. Let’s build this thing together!

Buying the Business of your Dreams

Baby boomers are retiring! This means there will be more businesses for sale than ever before. Found a tired, poorly-run business that is prime for you to help it reach its true potential? Lean on us to guide you through the process.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a tax agent and an accountant?

A registered tax agent is authorised by the Tax Practitioners Board to prepare and lodge tax returns on your behalf, and is bound by a professional code of conduct. Most accounting firms, including LBW Advisory, operate as registered tax agents so your lodgements are both prepared and filed under that authority.

How often do I need to lodge a BAS?

Most businesses lodge BAS quarterly, though some lodge monthly (generally larger GST-registered businesses) or annually (some smaller businesses that elect to). Your lodgement cycle depends on your GST turnover and registration choices. If you have any queries about the correct cycle for you, please contact us directly.

What happens if I've missed a lodgement deadline?

The ATO can apply failure-to-lodge penalties, and interest may accrue on any outstanding tax debt. If you're behind, the priority is getting current as quickly as possible — in many cases penalties can be remitted where there's a reasonable explanation and a clear plan to catch up.

What records do I need to keep for tax compliance?

Generally, five years from the date you lodge, covering income, expenses, GST, payroll and super records. We can advise on what applies specifically to your structure and industry.

Do I need a separate accountant for each entity in my structure?

No — in fact, having one firm across a company, trust and any related entities usually improves outcomes, because compliance, structuring and tax planning are considered together rather than in isolation.

How far in advance should I get compliance work started each year?

As soon as your financial year ends (and your June BAS is lodged if you are registered for GST), rather than waiting for a deadline to approach. Starting early gives more room for tax planning opportunities before lodgement, not just after.
